The Week Ahead for South Florida: Pumpkins and Fall Festivals

Bedner's Pumpkin Patch

The Calendar for October is getting fuller by the moment!  There is no excuse to miss any of your favorite October events anymore!  Thanks to all of you who helped out by Submitting your Community Event to our Calendar. As always, Free Community events can be submitted at no charge!  City Recreations departments with minimal charges are also free!  I am pumping up the list as we speak on the search for the best Fall Festivals, Halloween and Pumpkin Patches around!  If you know of one, let me know!  I really think that we have the biggest list ever!

Big News:  It’s Publishing Week at my daughters school so I joined in the fun and finally published my first book!  Have you ever had an animal that you were sure was actively trying to be nice, but just ended up causing havoc? Read about my cat Baby Girl and why she did all the crazy things she did.  My daughter liked hearing the stories about this crazy cat, so I put them down in a little book.

The Week Ahead for South Florida; Sandoway House & Museums

Sandoway House

It has been a tough week getting back into the swing of things with school.  I am beginning to think that Spring Break might just be cruel.  It was so easy to fall into the lazy days of summer, and oh boy getting up at 5 this week was brutal!  I was back to substituting at my daughters school and I could tell my sweet little kindergartners felt the same way!

This week I suggest heading out to a museum you find some of our favorites on under Museums under the Review Tab, to see some of our favorite places to play and learn.  I wanted to mention also that Sandoway House in Delray Beach reopened a few weeks ago after being closed due to a car hitting the building, it is a sweet little place to visit, if you want a quick educational visit!  Click Here for Photo’s and a Review of Sandoway House.

Also, I would like to remind everyone to take a moment to read 5 Tips for Beach Safety.  It is still Spring Break for other states and so we will continue to entertain visiting families at the beach more and more as summer looms ahead of us.  Please be sure to impress upon anyone you care about the dangers of rip currents. There have been numerous rescues over the last few weeks on our beaches and even at least one death.  The beaches are a wonderful gift to spend time at, however rip currents are very real and very serious.

You should have seen the sheer amazement on her face when she pulled this out of the ground!

It is time for families in the south to put in a garden!  While our friends up north are hunkering down for winter, we are now looking forward to the season when our plants won’t drown or burn!  Have you ever wanted to plant a garden, but found the volume of information overwhelming?  No worries, I have you covered.

Follow my 5 Tips for Planting a Garden with Kids and see what happens!  The key is to treat it like an experiment and don’t over think it.  You can still plant things even if you live in a condo!  So come on, get dirty with us! No excuses here my friends!

How you can help keep this site running.  I will admit it, I need your help!  I know it’s a blatant plea for money, but you can help!

Brass Rubbing in St Martins Crypt

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!  I know we did.  We did just well…….nothing, and it was fabulous.

My pick of the week:
Fun Day on the Runway Event DetailsFun Day on the Runway.  I have never seen an event like this, but it the flyer says that you will be able to hang out on the new runway at Fort Lauderdale Airport with  tours of the elevated 8,000 foot runway, aviation exhibits, entertainment, and children’s activities.  If it’s not too hot out this should be a pretty unique event!

Mommy & Me Yoga at Fern Forest.
I sure wish they did this when my daughter was little!  We used to go to their Nature Tots Classes and loved them!

St. Martins in the Fields & Cafe in the CryptEarlier in the week I shared a video made by me rather talented hubby of us doing a brass rubbing in the crypt of a church in London.  We found it totally by accident and it was great little detour.
