It is still Strawberry Season!

It is strawberry picking time here in Florida! (Get it? Pick of the Week?) Benders Farm (Click Here to read a Review) is The Girls Strawberry Farm now doing U-Pick Strawberries.  We also love to go to UPDATE:  No Strawberries at the Girls this year.  It’s sad!  The Girls U-Pick (Click Here for a Review) it is a lovely way to spend an afternoon, even without the strawberries though.

Hiking Season!  Get out in nature!

Grab the chance to take the kids a little hike!  Need some tips for hiking with the Family?  Check out 5 Tips for Hiking with Kids or 5 Tips for Birding with Kids!  We love Boca’s best secret hiking trail (Yamato Scrub Natural Area)!  I also love Pondhawk Nature Center, it has stroller friendly paths and is near the playground.   Daggerwing Nature Center is really nice too, loads of playground, a nice small interactive education center, and of course playgrounds!

The Week Ahead, Kapow, Gardening, St. Patrick’s and Spring Break

strawberries from our gardenMany of you know we are active in our Community Garden.  The Gardeners donate a portion of their crops to Boca Helping Hands.  I am not that good of a gardener an most of my crop gets eaten in the car on the way home, so my daughter and I do a grocery run at the end of the growing season to donate, but hey we try!  For us this is an important  activity to teach my child not only where our food comes from, but how to give back to our community.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Downtown Fort Lauderdale 2013

Don’t miss the Parade!
Saturday, March 9, 2013 – 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. along Los Olas Blvd, from S.E. 8th Avenue to Andrews Avenue, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

11:00 am Traditional Irish Blessing at Huizenga Plaza, located at Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue. At 12:00 pm the U.S. Coast Guard’s signature red helicopter will perform a flyover to officially start the St. Patrick’s Parade.

We went to the Parade last year (2012), it was really good and surprisingly big. How can you go wrong with Bagpipes and Irish Storm Troopers!

We parked in the library multistory, but I think next year it would be smart to park in the River Walk Garage or the one by the Museum of Discovery and Science and walk down to the Parade. It was really slammed in there!

The kids had a great time and got beads from the parade, there was also a festival in the park there on Los Olas. It’s a great parade because there is plenty of shade at noon along the road and you don’t have to stand out and cook in the sun!

My favorite was the green decorated Storm Troopers and Darth Vader! I think I filled half my camera card with them alone. Go on call me a dork! I just can’t help it sometimes!

This years Parade is today,  March 10th along Los Olas Blvd, from S.E. 8th Avenue to Andrews Avenue, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Oh, and there will be STORMTROOPERS on the Riverside LAWN for photos between 10am-11:30 before the parade!
